Relaxing for 3 Days in Bali

Relaxing for 3 Days in Bali

We celebrated 100 days of traveling in beautiful Bali, Indonesia! We can’t believe we’ve been gone for over three months… time flies when you’re having SO MUCH fun! A scheduling snafu turned our 5 nights in Bali into only 3 nights. We accidentally confused some redeye flights for nights we’d have at the beach, only to realize later that we’d actually only given ourselves a super short visit. We stayed in the Seminyak beach area, one of the main tourist…

A Guide to Transportation in Sri Lanka

A Guide to Transportation in Sri Lanka

One of the best parts about traveling to Sri Lanka is it’s a pretty small country and it’s easy to get around. Trains, buses, and cars are just as much of the travel experience here as being in any one location and we loved sampling the many transit offerings. Train Train travel is the best and most scenic way to get around Sri Lanka. There are routes connecting Colombo to the beaches along the southwest coast and separate lines connecting…

Our 2 Week Sri Lanka Itinerary

Our 2 Week Sri Lanka Itinerary

When Jen left us after our visit to Angkor Wat, we had to decide what to do next. We had about 2 weeks unaccounted for before heading to Australia and New Zealand. We thought about continuing on to see other parts of Cambodia and toyed with the idea of heading to Malaysia for some scuba diving. However, we kept hearing great things about Sri Lanka and decided to get out of Southeast Asia to experience something different. We are so glad we ended…

Visiting the Temples of Angkor

Visiting the Temples of Angkor

We spent 4 days in Siem Reap to check out Angkor Wat and the other temples in the area. After our few days of temple hopping in Bagan, Myanmar, our favorite stop of the trip to date, we were excited to see what the famous temples in Cambodia had to offer. The best way to get around the temples is by tuk tuk (pictured below). It cost us about $20 USD per day to hire someone to take us around. Before…

Hoi An, Vietnam: The Highlight Reel

Hoi An, Vietnam: The Highlight Reel

We loved Hoi An. Here were our top favorite activities: Food Food Tour By far our favorite part of Hoi An was the food.  We did a food tour on our first day which was excellent.  We were led by Pearl, a local who has a passion for food and was genuinely excited to show us all of the foods of Hoi An and the proper ways to eat them.  We tried a total of 10 different items over the course of…

Our Ha Long Bay Cruise Experience

Our Ha Long Bay Cruise Experience

Ha Long Bay is advertised (at least by our selected cruise company, Ocean Tours) as one of the “New 7 Wonders of the World.” I was not familiar with that category of world wonders but it certainly is stunningly beautiful.  Over 1,000 towering limestone islands surround one bigger island (Cat Ba), rising above the turquoise water. It’s a magical sight to see.  Our 3 day/2 night cocktail cruise began with a 2 hour bus ride from Hanoi to the coast….

Trekking in Bac Ha, Vietnam

Trekking in Bac Ha, Vietnam

After having a great experience trekking in Myanmar we booked a 2 day/1 night trek in Sapa, a small town in northern Vietnam, through Ethnic Travel.  We had very little information on the details of the trek prior to leaving Hanoi and were unsure of what the mileage would be, what size the group would be, etc. All we knew was that we had to arrive at the company’s office in Hanoi at 7:30pm for our night train to the north….

Four Days in Hanoi, Vietnam

Four Days in Hanoi, Vietnam

Our first stop in Vietnam was Hanoi, the capital city located in the northern part of the country. We had one night here before heading north to Bac Ha for trekking, and then we returned for 3 more nights post-trek. Our friend Jen, who I grew up with, joined us for two weeks beginning with our second stop in Hanoi. Hanoi is the craziest place we have been, earning this distinction mostly because of it’s insane traffic. Stop lights and traffic lights are…
