One Week in South Africa

One Week in South Africa

We couldn’t believe it when we crossed into South Africa, our last stop before heading home! Ah! We had about a week to explore a bit of the west coast of the country. We ended the trip in style with lots of wine, beautiful hiking, and, of course, animal activities! Wine Country Our first stop in South Africa was at a a family-run winery/camp ground called Highlanders. The owner Sparky (who hilariously has a dog named Ben) organized a wine tasting…

Thanks for following along, even when we get a bit out of sync with real time!  The two weeks we spent in Namibia were the most…

Our First Week on the Truck: Arriving in Zambia, Entering Zimbabwe, Cruising Lake Kariba, and Animal Encounters Galore

We’ve had a jam packed first week of traveling in Africa! Arrival in Zambia We landed in Lusaka, Zambia on March 13th after 4 flights and 42 hours of door-to-door travel from Melbourne. This was without a doubt our longest stretch of travel so far! We stayed at the campsite where our safari would begin and had two nights there before hitting the road. Epic Road Trips Part 2: Australia’s Great Ocean Road

Epic Road Trips Part 2: Australia’s Great Ocean Road

After our two week road trip around New Zealand we returned to Australia for another week of fun down under. This time we arrived in Melbourne and decided to take a road trip on the Great Ocean Road which stretches for nearly 250 km along the southeast coast of the country. We rented a campervan through Jucy and had a blast. The van was a converted Toyota minivan which had the middle seats removed and replaced by a bench that…

Hiking the Routeburn Track in New Zealand

Hiking the Routeburn Track in New Zealand

New Zealand has a series of nine “Great Walks,” popular “tramping” (aka hiking + camping) trails that go through some of the most scenic parts of the country. My dad had heard great things about one of these hikes, the Routeburn Track, from his friend who is a New Zealand native so we decided to give it a try. The Routeburn Track is located in the southwest of New Zealand, connecting Fiordland National Park and neighboring Mount Aspiring National Park….

Epic Road Trips Part 1: New Zealand’s South Island

Epic Road Trips Part 1: New Zealand’s South Island

New Zealand was one of the places we’ve been most excited to visit; we heard great things about the people and expected the scenery to be awesome. It lived up to the hype and we had the most fun road trip here with my dad who flew to meet up with us for two weeks! What a treat! We rented a car from Rent-A-Dent in Christchurch (which was much nicer than it sounds) and spent two weeks exploring the South…

Scuba Diving on the Great Barrier Reef: A Bucket List Dream Come True!

Scuba Diving on the Great Barrier Reef: A Bucket List Dream Come True!

We flew to Cairns, Australia for a chance to get up close and personal with the Great Barrier Reef. However, most visitors come to visit the Great Barrier Reef and this was of course the highlight of our visit! We signed up to visit the reef with Silverswift, one of the companies that offers diving tours. At…
